You may have heard about the New Macbook Pro's featuring a new Thunderbolt connector. But, you might be wondering what exactly it is. Thunderbolt is Intel's newest innovation, offering two streams of super fast (10Gb/s) data transfer. Fast enough to large amounts of data in seconds. It has potential to be connected to super fast RAID systems, or other professional equipment. LaCie even announced it will support this super speed connector on it's new Little Big Disk. Thunderbolt also offers backwards compatibility with MiniDisplay port adapters for displays such as Apple's Cinema Display, VGA adapters, and others. Thunderbolt also supports being split into multiple sources, allowing you to plug your Macbook Pro into an Apple Display while also connecting it to an external harddrive like the new LaCie drive with Thunderbolt support.
